First Try on KDE4

I just installed KDE 4 on my Ubuntu 7.10 and tried it for once. First impression - it’s pretty! First thing that I discovered was the little icon on the top right hand corner of the screen. Hovered the mouse over and I knew it’s used to add widgets to desktop. I was so eagerly added two widgets - the KDE Application Launcher Menu and the Logoff Manager (cannot remember the name).Second, which is not a good discovery, some of the icons on the application launcher menu are missing! Without hesitation, I started the System Settings (same function as “Control Panel” in Windows) to see if any wrong configurations caused this. Unluckily, System Settings crashed when I was trying to access the Display setting.

I tried to search through the bug reports in official KDE website but so far cannot find anything helpful. Anyway, I’m sure the developers will release updates and fixes with respect to those bugs reported. So, I’ll just sit and wait.

If you want to try KDE4, visit this page and follow the instructions given.

I personally like the new KDE (i tried RC2) and hopefully it will mature soon enough to replace my Gnome desktop :D

I dun really like the main menu offered anyway…….

I also don’t like the main menu…so I add the Application Launcher Menu widget to the desktop which is like the menu in Gnome.
